Maui Whales!

December 14, 2006

The best time to buy on Maui is when the Humpback Whales return!

Maui residents look forward every year from mid-December through mid-May for the humpback whales, who make their home in the waters surrounding the island of Maui.  The whales will migrate close to 3,500 miles from Alaska, to the warm waters of Hawaii where they mate and have their calves.  It is believed that approximately 1,500 to 2,000 humpback whales visit the waters around Maui each year.  You can see whales breaching while standing on the south and west sides of the island.  While you are here on Maui you should definately take a whale-watching cruise and see these magnificent creatures up close.  There are some cruises that let you hear the whales singing underwater!  It's incredible.

Congratulations on Your New Home - A Real Estate Joke

Aloha from Maui!

We are doing fine over here.  The tsunami that was forecast to hit the islands was barely a ripple.  The sky is bright blue and the tradewinds have returned.  In honor of our good fortune, I decided to share a funny joke with you:

A client bought a new home and the broker wanted to send flowers for the occasion.
They arrived at the home and the owner read the card; it said "Rest in Peace".

The owner was angry and called the florist to complain. After he had told the florist of the obvious mistake and how angry he was, the florist said. "Sir, I'm really sorry for the mistake, but rather than getting angry you should imagine this: somewhere there is a funeral taking place today, and they have flowers with a note saying, "Congratulations on your new home".

Hope you liked it!

A Happy Maui Halloween from Fred!

October 31, 2006

Happy Halloween Everyone!

Here's my favorite Halloween joke for today.  I hope you enjoy it!

Fred's Halloween Joke for 2006

A Man was walking home alone, late one night, when he hears:

BUMP...
BUMP...
BUMP...

Walking faster, he looks back and through the fog he makes out the image of an upright casket banging its way down the middle of the street toward him.

BUMP...
BUMP...
BUMP...

Terrified, the man begins to run toward his home, the casket bouncing quickly behind him

FASTER...
FASTER...

BUMP...
BUMP...
BUMP...

He runs up to his door, fumbles with his keys, opens the door, rushes in, slams and locks the door behind him.

However, the casket crashes through his door, with the lid of the casket clapping

clappity-BUMP...
clappity-BUMP...
clappity-BUMP...

on his heels, the terrified man runs.

Rushing upstairs to the bathroom, the man locks himself in. His heart is pounding; his head is reeling; his breath is coming in sobbing gasps.

With a loud CRASH the casket breaks down the door.

Bumping and clapping toward him.

The man screams and reaches for something, anything, but all he can find is a bottle of Vicks formula 44 cough syrup!

Desperate, he throws the cough syrup at the casket...

and,

The coffin stops!!!!

It's an Oldie but a Goodie!

Have a Safe and Happy Halloween!!

A Whole Lot of Shakin' Going On in Maui

October 17, 2006

We all were shaken out of our sleep two mornings ago with the 6.6 earthquake. I immediately evacuated with the kids and thankfully no Tsunami appeared....but it did bring back memories...

Around 1960, we had a tsunami warning from Chile, which is SE of Kahului and 8 hours away by Tsunami standards. Since Kahului was facing North, we felt that it would not affect the Kahului area and we were all asleep in a beach house in Kahului harbor. My Dad had driven the boat out to sea as a precaution and at around 2 am in the morning, Mom came running into our room screaming that the first wave was coming into the Harbor. We all made a quick dash to the car without the dogs and cats and turned out onto Kaahumanu Ave.  We noticed that Puunene Ave was running like a stream about waist high as we turned on up to Wailuku looking for higher grounds... Our neighbors were a little slower out of bed and the water caught them and one ended up grabbing on to a telephone pole while the wave went by. The best part as a kid was that school was cancelled and we explored all the tide pools for fish and octopus which made for a great day.

Hilo on the island of Hawaii wasn't so lucky with incredible damage to the town and many lives lost! I found this picture of the town in the aftermath. A few years later I visited Hilo and the parking meters were all bent to the ground!

Today on Maui we have awesome weather after yesterday's 10 inches of rain in Kaupo.  The road to Hana on the backside of Maui was closed. It is so beautiful today.  I am sure all the tourists are happy with the turn of the weather back to perfect!
